Computer Simulation of Martensitic Transformation Under Stress

چکیده
This paper reports a computer simulation of martensitic transformation in both Cu-Zn-Al and Fe-Ni-C alloys by a 2-dimensional model . The influence of the imposed stress on the mechanical behaviour, the transformation kinetics, and the microstructure are illustrated for Cu-Zn-A1 alloy. The study of transformation kinetics shows the following features: (1) in case of stress-free transformation, both alloys transform in burst, the transformation will go directly to near completion once a band can overcome the energy barrier. (2) the transformation temperature range spreads monotonically as the load is increased from 0 to 500 MPa. (3) Mf is nearly the same for the different tested loading conditions. Even if the assumption of elastic accommodation is not realistic for Fe-Ni-C alloy, we can analyse the influence of the volume change associated with the transformation on the local stress level and on the behaviour of the alloy. This volume change has no notable influence at the earlier stage of the transformation. It becomes larger as the transformed fraction increases.

Transformation-Induced Creep and Creep Recovery of Shape Memory Alloy
If the shape memory alloy is subjected to the subloop loading under the stress-controlled condition, creep and creep recovery can appear based on the martensitic transformation. In the design of shape memory alloy elements, these deformation properties are important since the deflection of shape memory alloy elements can change under constant stress. The conditions for the progress of the marte...

The monotonic and cyclic deformation behavior of ultrafine-grained metastable austenitic steel AISI 304L, produced by severe plastic deformation, was investigated. Under monotonic loading, the martensitic phase transformation in the ultrafine-grained state is strongly favored. Under cyclic loading, the martensitic transformation behavior is similar to the coarse-grained condition, but the cycli...

In this article, we develop a continuum mechanical model to simulate deformation and phase transformation processes in shape memory alloys. The model is based on a detailed description of the stored energy. Furthermore, the energy dissipation due to phase transformations is taken into account via the maximum-dissipation principle. The in ̄uences of grain boundaries and relative grain misorientations on stress-induced martensitic transformations in NiTi are studied using unique experiments and ®nite element modeling. Tensile and compressive mechanical tests reveal that polycrystalline NiTi with a dominant <111> ®ber texture and single crystal NiTi oriented along the [111] direction exhibit nearly identical stress±strain cu...
متن کاملMartensitic transformation of FeNi nanofilm induced by interfacial stress generated in FeNi/V nanomultilayered structure
FeNi/V nanomultilayered films with different V layer thicknesses were synthesized by magnetron sputtering. By adjusting the thickness of the V layer, different interfacial compressive stress were imposed on FeNi layers and the effect of interfacial stress on martensitic transformation of the FeNi film was investigated. Without insertion of V layers, the FeNi film exhibits a face-centered cubic ...
